Financial Assistance for Cancer Patients Program

The Financial Assistance for Cancer Patients Program was made possible by The Walk 4 Family & Friends With Cancer, a grassroots organization committed to helping those who are experiencing financial difficulties as a result of their cancer diagnosis.  This group united to sponsor a community walk to help raise funds to go directly to cancer research at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, and established the Cancer Emergency Support Fund at JFCS. 

The Cancer Emergency Support Fund will offer direct financial assistance to residents of South Jersey (regardless of religious or ethnic denomination) looking for help with non-medical expenses related to their cancer diagnosis.  The Financial Assistance for Cancer Patients Program quickly and compassionately delivers services, so that patients and their families can focus on the more important challenge of getting well. 

Financial assistance is available for, but not limited to the following non-medical expenses:

• Rent
• Utilities
• Transportation

• Babysitting

Those seeking assistance must complete the Application for Support and submit to JFCS (see the application for submission details.  Completed applications are reviewed and approved by a grant committee within a matter of days, based on need and availability of funds.  Except in unusual circumstances, financial assistance is paid directly to the service provider (i.e. the utility company) and not to the patient.
