5K Walk & Run 4 Family & Friends with Cancer Goes Virtual!

Now in its 12th year, the 5K Run & Walk 4 Family & Friends with Cancer has become a tradition for many community members. The grassroots event spreads awareness, raises critical research funds, and helps local cancer patients overcome financial difficulties associated with their illnesses. Since its start in 2008, the event has raised well over $400,000 from runners and sponsors, directly benefiting South Jersey residents who are fighting cancer. This year’s race was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 26 at Voorhees Middle School. But like so many other events affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the race will look a little different this year. The organizers have transformed the event into virtual 5K run or walk so that people can safely engage while supporting the fundraising efforts. Participants may choose either April 25 or April 26, at the time and location of their choosing—a road, a sidewalk, a treadmill, the backyard, or even a living room. For those who are running a 5K, times will be posted on the race website. As in past years, all proceeds from the event will directly support both the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania and Samost Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS), whose needs are even greater this year due to coronavirus.
