Advocacy is an important function of JFCS. It enables our staff and lay leaders to bring the needs of our clients to a broader audience, in the hopes of affecting outcomes and creating change. Political advocacy provides JFCS with a voice to effect legislation, garner support for needed programs, provide testimonials and secure funding for services. Representatives from the agency meet with elected officials in Trenton and Washington, DC on issues concerning special needs, women’s and senior legislation, family services and benefits, mental health, special needs, and more.

We value the relationships that we have established, and continually seek to pave the way for our clients by fostering new connections. In furtherance of this goal, an outreach initiative was begun this past year to establish rapport with local legislators across party lines in Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties. In its first year alone, JFCS has met with Assemblywoman Gabriela Mosquera, Mayor Chuck Cahn, Senator Diane Allen, Senator Dawn Addiego, U.S. Representative Tom MacArthur, U.S. Representative Donald Norcross.

These meetings help our legislators understand specific needs and concerns of JFCS clients, and educate them on all of the critical programs and services JFCS offers. Through dialogue, we are able to pinpoint the social service needs of South Jersey, and collaborate on how to best serve everyone. We look forward to sharing more important conversations with our elected officials as we build a better tomorrow for those in need.
