Bring the Seder’s Promise to Life: Join Our Passover Food Drive

As Passover approaches, many of us prepare our homes and our tables, gathering with family and friends to retell the story of liberation. At the start of the Seder, we recite a powerful invitation: “Whoever is hungry, come and eat. Whoever is needy, come and celebrate Passover.” This call is more than tradition—it is a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for one another.

This year, our community has an opportunity to bring those words to life through JFCS’s Passover Food Drive on Monday, March 23 from 10:00am – 1:00pm at the Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Building (6 East Miami Avenue in Cherry Hill). By donating Kosher for Passover food, you can help ensure that our neighbors in need are able to celebrate the holiday with dignity and joy.

Jewish tradition teaches that freedom is not complete if others are still struggling. During this season—so deeply rooted in themes of justice, compassion, and communal responsibility—we are called to extend ourselves beyond our own homes. A simple act of giving can transform someone’s holiday experience.

Most-needed Passover items include matzo, matzo meal, matzo ball soup mix, Passover cake mixes, cake meal, gefilte fish, borscht, chicken broth, grape juice, canned fish, canned fruits and vegetables, and dried fruits and nuts.

As you prepare your home for Passover and clear out chametz (grain products), please also consider donating unopened, nonperishable items you no longer wish to keep, such as cereal, rice, pasta, tomato products, peanut butter, and jelly. In doing so, you not only prepare your own home for the holiday, but also help sustain others in our community.

If you are unable to attend during the drive hours, donations can be made at any time using the 24/7 collection container located at 6 East Miami Avenue, outside the Feldman Carriage House at the rear of the parking lot. Donations are also accepted at the JFCS main office (1301 Springdale Road, Suite 150) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM for those on the East Side of Cherry Hill.

Together, we can ensure that the message of Passover is not just spoken, but lived—opening our doors, extending our hands, and making space at the table for all.
