Weinberg Commons Residential Program

What is Weinberg Commons?
Weinberg Commons is an affordable housing apartment building with a mixed population. Seniors reside in apartments on the second and third floors, and individuals with developmental disabilities live in quad units on the first floor. Rent for the quad units is subsidized by the Supportive Housing Connection through a rental voucher provided by the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). Weinberg Commons was made possible through a partnership of Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, Pennrose Properties, and JFCS. Pennrose Properties serves as property manager and JFCS provides 24-hour staffing and support services, allowing individuals to live as independently as they can.

A Unique Living Arrangement
Each ADA-compliant, accessible quad connects four individual apartment units, consisting of a small kitchen, living area, bedroom, and bathroom, with a large communal living area, and kitchen. This living arrangement provides each client with independence and privacy in their own apartment, along with the communal and social benefits afforded by living with others.

Support Services
JFCS provides a wide array of support services based on each individual’s needs, as determined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP). JFCS hires, trains, schedules, and supervises all staff. Support Services are funded for individuals who have the DDD Community Care Program through their individual budgets. For those who are eligible for the DDD Supports Program, services are funded through a blend of individual budgets and private payment.

JFCS believes in the dignity of each individual and advocates to help our clients achieve the highest degree of self-determination and independence possible. Embracing this philosophy, we provide daily living skills support, socialization and recreation opportunities, and community inclusion for the residents. Our staff strives to foster individual success while developing a sense of community among all of the Weinberg Commons residents.
