Volunteer Spotlight: Susan Sall

When Susan Sall retired after a 50-year career as an administrative assistant, she wanted to continue giving back — and found the perfect opportunity with JFCS. Since joining our Volunteer Transportation Program in September 2024, Susan has dedicated her time to providing rides for senior clients to their medical appointments.

Susan says her favorite part of volunteering is the connections she makes with clients. “I genuinely love being a volunteer driver,” she shares. “Every ride is a chance to get to know someone new and build a relationship.”

Her warmth and reliability have made a lasting impression. One client remarked, “Susan is more like a concerned relative — so much more than just someone who drives me.” Another described her simply as “wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!”

According to Wendy Hernberg, JFCS Volunteer Transportation Coordinator, “Susan is an invaluable volunteer who approaches each trip with professionalism and compassion, making every client feel cared for. Her dedication is remarkable — and our clients (and I) cannot say enough kind words about her.”

Susan typically accepts three to four rides each week — and recently completed six rides in just one week! Since joining the program, she has already provided 175 rides, totaling nearly 300 volunteer hours.

When she’s not driving clients, Susan enjoys gardening and taking daily walks. In just her first year with JFCS, she has already become a shining star — brightening the days of so many seniors in our community.

Thank you, Susan, for your kindness, commitment, and incredible impact!
