For most families, a trip to the grocery store or a child’s birthday party is routine. But for families managing food allergies, everyday moments can carry real risk—and a significant emotional and financial toll. That’s why JFCS is holding an upcoming Allergy-Friendly Food Drive to help local families access the safe, specialized foods they need.
Food allergies impact far more than diet. Many parents live with constant vigilance, navigating anxiety about accidental exposure while managing strict food preparation routines. Everyday activities—from school lunches to social events—often require careful planning or are avoided altogether. Children may feel isolated, and families frequently face difficult trade-offs to maintain safety.
The financial burden adds another layer. Allergy-friendly staples like gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, and egg-free products are often significantly more expensive than traditional foods. For some families, these expenses can quickly become overwhelming.
JFCS sees these challenges firsthand through the families it serves. Our Allergy-Friendly Food Drive is a direct response to this growing need, ensuring that individuals and families don’t have to choose between affordability and safety.
Community members can make a meaningful difference by donating essential allergy-friendly items such as gluten-free flour, bread and pasta, nut-free spreads, egg substitutes, and dairy-free milk alternatives. These products help support the JFCS Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantry in providing safe, nutritious options for neighbors living with food allergies.
Donations can be dropped off on Monday, May 4 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. at the Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Building (6 East Miami Avenue, Cherry Hill) or at the JFCS Main Office (1301 Springdale Road, Suite 150). For those who prefer to shop online, items can also be purchased through the our food pantry Amazon Wish List and shipped directly to JFCS.
At its core, this food drive is about dignity, inclusion, and peace of mind. By contributing, our community can help ensure that every family has access to food that is not only nourishing—but safe.
