Volunteer Spotlight: Mike Bass

Mike Bass and his wife, Debbi, have called Cherry Hill home for 43 years, where they raised their two sons, Alan (36) and David (39). Mike is semi-retired from his family’s hobby and craft business, whose Magnolia shop has been a fixture in the community since 1976.

Mike first connected with JFCS during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he and Debbi were seeking meaningful ways to give back locally. Motivated by a deep commitment to helping those facing food insecurity, he began volunteering with the Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantry. Over the past six years, Mike has contributed nearly 600 volunteer hours, serving as both a Food Pantry Helper and a Heavy Lifter. He was also recently invited to join the inaugural Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Program (FAP) Committee.

Although Mike is scheduled for a regular Tuesday morning pantry shift, he is often there on additional days, always ready to lend a hand wherever needed. He is driven by a strong sense of purpose and the desire to make a tangible difference. FAP Director Meri Seligman describes Mike as a “dedicated volunteer” who “consistently arrives early, ready to help with whatever is needed—whether unloading trucks, stocking shelves, or preparing food packages for clients. Mike’s energy and enthusiasm are truly unmatched.” She adds that, beyond his hands-on work, Mike plays an important role on the FAP Committee, offering thoughtful, strategic ideas that help strengthen and improve operations.

In addition to his commitment to JFCS, Mike serves as an active Board Member of the Kellman Brown Academy and has volunteered with the JCRC’s Esther Raab Holocaust Museum and Goodwin Education Center for 15 years. His dedication to JFCS and to the broader community is both impressive and deeply appreciated.

Thank you, Mike, for all that you do for JFCS, our clients, and the community!
