As the coronavirus pandemic continues through the spring, JFCS staffers are fielding up to 200 calls each day from community members who are facing the very real and very scary prospect of food insecurity. That number is only expected to grow in coming weeks. During this challenging time, our neighbors need us more than ever, and many people want to know how they can help. One easy and safe way to pitch in is by donating food to the JFCS “Drop & Go” food drive on Friday, May 1. Thanks to the generosity of community members, the agency’s first such food drive, held in early April, brought in enough donations to assemble 75 sets of food to be distributed to clients. The more food the agency receives, the more it will be able to distribute to adults, seniors, families, and children in need. The most-needed items include shelf-stable milk, pancake mix, hot and cold cereal, kosher soups, canned fruit, disinfectant wipes, hand soap, personal care items, toilet paper, and paper towels. Between the hours of 10am and 1pm on Friday, May 1, there will be collection containers placed outside the JFCS Family Assistance Center (located across from Locustwood Cemetery, at the corner of Whitman Avenue and Route 70) for safe and socially distant drop-off of donated items.
