Souper Bowl of Kindness: Fighting Hunger One Soup at a Time

While millions of Eagles Fans are getting ready for Super Bowl LIX this weekend, Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) is holding  a “Souper Bowl of Kindness” to help combat hunger in Southern New Jersey! Our goal is to collect hundreds of Kosher soups to ensure that struggling community members have a hot and hearty meal during the cold winter months.

In Fiscal Year 2024, the JFCS Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantry distributed 18,940 bags of food weighing 193,147 pounds to help nourish food-insecure residents of Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties. Our community’s need for food and other basic necessities continues to rise. According to Meri Seligman, Director of the Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Program (FAP), our community’s need for food support continues to rise. “In January of 2025, we welcomed 52 new client households and distributed food to 465 households, which averages more than 116 distributions each week! This is a record high for the FAP.”

This year’s “Souper Bowl” collection encourages community members to drop off hearty and nutritious Kosher soups to help nourish our neighbors in need. Boxed soups or cans with pop-tops are appreciated and make for easy opening, especially for individuals with limited access to can openers.

Donations will be accepted from now through February 17 at the Rhona Fischer Family Assistance Building / Betsy & Peter Fischer Food Pantry (6 East Miami Avenue in Cherry Hill). Building hours are 9am to 3pm Monday through Wednesday, and there is a 24/7 donation box located at the back of the parking lot, outside the Feldman Carriage House. Together, we can provide warmth and nourishment to our community.

Individuals in need of food support can reach out to JFCS at (856) 424-1333 or faphelp@jfedsnj.org to request an intake appointment.
