Project SEARCH is a nationally recognized high school transition program that prepares young adults with disabilities for success in the workplace. Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) is proud to be the community rehabilitation provider for Project SEARCH at both Jefferson Health and TD Bank. During their year at TD Bank, the Project SEARCH interns gain real-life work experience in several departments, combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help them make a successful transition from school to adult life.
This January, the TD Bank Project SEARCH interns held a book drive to benefit BookSmiles. The drive was a resounding success: the interns collected and donated a total of 343 children’s books and 276 books for adults, for a grand total of 619 books!
On Friday, February 2, the group took a community trip BookSmiles to deliver their donations. The interns had an opportunity to volunteer their time by sorting books, breaking down cardboard boxes, and putting BookSmiles stickers on boxes. They also learned about how BookSmiles operates, including the various roles and responsibilities of the organization’s staff and volunteers. It was a great experience for all involved. Thanks to all those who supported this very worthy endeavor!
