According to statistics, New Jersey has over 472,000 veterans, with more than 33,000 in Camden County alone. The Burlington County statistics estimate that their veteran population comprises over 10 percent of county residents. Of those, the largest segment is Vietnam War veterans, who make up approximately 35 percent of veterans in Burlington County. Approximately 10 percent of all JFCS clients are veterans. Many of these clients have difficulty arranging their appointments, getting transportation to treatments, and identifying the benefits to which they are entitled. To help meet the challenges and needs of our Veteran population in Southern New Jersey, JFCS created the Veterans Assistance Program to enable Veterans to receive the care and consideration they deserve.
Take the Wheel Veterans Transportation Service
Take the Wheel provides free rides for veterans from other veterans to medical appointments at local VA facilities and other medical sites. Take the Wheel services are available to Veterans of Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester Counties. Presently, we are actively seeking veterans who would be able to become a Take the Wheel driver and for veterans who would need our assistance.
A short intake is required to make sure the veteran in need is a proper fit for the program. Veterans must have an honorable discharge / produce DD214, the ability to transfer in and out of a car without assistance, and a permanent, verifiable address.
This program is sponsored by the Verizon / NJSHARES and Rothkoff Law Group Elder & Disability Law.

Veterans Benefits Counseling & Referrals
Our aim is to assist all Veterans in understanding the benefits they can and should be receiving from local and federal governmental agencies and other organizations. Veterans can be assured that JFCS will investigate all possible benefits and supportive programs available, leaving no stone unturned.
